Second Star to the Right...

A few months ago I posted an image of a little girl named Ava Jaymes Cipriani who was fighting Neuroblastoma. She recently passed away on April 17th, 2007. On her webpage are some pictures of her and her family. For some reason her trip to the aquarium (and her fascination with a stingray) and a picture of a flock of gulls that appeared as her parents put her ashes in the sea, stood out to me.

I decided to make a quick drawing based on those two things. I used the actual flock photo and added some more gulls. I also gave her hair. I'm guessing that's the first thing she brought back.

I can't imagine what her parents are going through. They amassed a large debt due to hospital bills, you can help them out by buying this t-shirt here: http://www.70star7.com/product.php?II=183

I truly don't know what to say, I'm just sad.

More Brush Fun

My pen died. Been a crazy busy week. I had 8 more pages to go and I would have filled my sketchbook in less than a week. I felt like I was back in school. Lots of freedom.

The Ancient Mariner

It's funny thinking about this guy again. I have to dig out the old thumbnails I did way back when. At the time I thought he was sooo original, but really he's just a cross between Spawn and Aquaman. Here's a drawing of the Ancient Mariner from back in the day. That was also one of the first computer colored drawings I did.

I remember a programmer I was working with commented that he didn't look very ancient, and that his outfit was relatively modern. I gave the bullshit excuse that he lives outside of time, so he's been at this vengeance thing for centuries. To some he looks futuristic, to others ancient.

I can be good at bullshit sometimes.

Brush Pen Sketches...

Katy Hargrove bought me this really cool Pentel brush pen. It's got a really cool looseness to it. I filled up 24 pages of my sketchbook in 2 nights. I can't recommend this pen enough. Way different than most brush pens, almost like sumi qualities. Love it. On a few I got inspired by Colin Fix's blog sketchbook entries and threw in some white acrylic.

First guy is an old comic character I was having fun with back in the late 90's early 2000's, The Ancient Mariner. There's an earlier version of him on my horrendously outdated website.
